England secured their first bilateral ODI series win over India since 2018 after beating them by 27 runs in a record-breaking third and final ODI at Lord’s.
England posted a huge 387 for 3, their highest ODI total against India and the highest List A score ever recorded at Lord’s. India responded strongly with 360 for 7, their highest ODI total in a losing cause, but fell short despite Rohit Sharma’s outstanding 138.
Openers dominate a historic day at Lord’s
Ben Duckett led England’s charge with a record 141, the highest individual score in a men’s ODI at Lord’s. His opening partnership of 192 with Jacob Bethell was also England’s highest ODI stand against India.
India’s openers answered with a 147-run partnership between Rohit and Shubman Gill. Rohit became the first Indian batter to score an ODI century at Lord’s and, at 39 years and 80 days, the oldest Indian to make an ODI hundred.
England clinch the series despite Rohit’s brilliance
Rohit reached his century in 84 balls and finished with 138, but England held their nerve to defend 387. The match featured four century partnerships, all for the first two wickets, underlining the dominance of the top-order batters.
Joe Root also completed a remarkable series, scoring 249 runs across three matches without being dismissed. England’s victory gave them a 2-1 series win and ended India’s hopes of taking the decider.
