India ended their T20I tour of Zimbabwe in dominant fashion, defeating the hosts by 35 runs in the third and final match to secure a comprehensive 3-0 series whitewash. Led by captain Shreyas Iyer, the visitors produced another all-round performance, with teenage sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi starring with the bat before the bowlers wrapped up the victory.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Shines Again
After being asked to bat first, India suffered an early setback when Abhishek Sharma departed for just two runs. However, 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi once again proved why he is one of the brightest young talents in world cricket.
Showing maturity well beyond his years, Sooryavanshi paced his innings brilliantly, combining caution against Zimbabwe’s pace attack with aggressive stroke play whenever the bowlers missed their lengths. His superb 81 off 49 deliveries included several classy boundaries and powerful sixes, giving India complete control of the innings.
Valuable Contributions Through the Middle Order
Ishan Kishan supported Sooryavanshi with a fluent 29, adding a crucial 75-run partnership for the second wicket. Captain Shreyas Iyer continued the momentum with a quick-fire 27 from 18 balls, ensuring India maintained a healthy scoring rate.
Although Zimbabwe fought back in the closing overs with disciplined slower deliveries, Rinku Singh’s late cameo helped India post an impressive total of 192/5, which looked well above par on the Harare surface.
Indian Bowlers Dominate the Chase
India’s bowlers wasted no time making an impact. Speedster Mayank Yadav struck with the very first ball of Zimbabwe’s innings, dismissing Brian Bennett and immediately putting the hosts under pressure.
Yash Thakur then delivered a crucial double blow, removing Dion Myers before dismissing Zimbabwe captain Sikandar Raza for a golden duck on the very next ball. Those early wickets left Zimbabwe struggling at 34/3.
Leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi maintained control through the middle overs, while Ashok Sharma chipped in with an important wicket to keep Zimbabwe from building any lasting partnerships.
Ryan Burl’s Resistance Not Enough
Ryan Burl provided the lone bright spot for Zimbabwe with a fighting unbeaten half-century. Together with Wessly Madhevere, he briefly raised hopes of a comeback through a useful partnership.
However, India continued to strike at regular intervals despite a disappointing day in the field, dropping several catches that could have made the victory even more convincing.
Mayank Yadav returned to clean up the innings, finishing with excellent figures of 3/29 as Zimbabwe closed on 157/7.
A Perfect End to India’s Tour
The series marks an important milestone for Shreyas Iyer, who celebrates his first T20I series victory as India’s captain. More importantly, the clean sweep provides a huge confidence boost after India’s difficult outings in Ireland and England earlier this summer.
The emergence of Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has been one of the biggest positives from the tour, while India’s pace attack looked sharp throughout the series. Although the fielding left room for improvement in the final match, the team’s batting depth and bowling consistency proved too strong for Zimbabwe.
